I was attracted to the “small” displays above the areena entrance since the party started. When Hieronymus announced the “Assembly 05 Coding Challenge” I took that challenge and pulled out my favorite movies from the blinkenlights project. As I’m a software developer but have no clue or experience about demo programming, I just went using my favorite programming language: Python. Actually I only needed to get the PyGame library which allows me to control SDL, OpenGL and other stuff. But most of that isn’t needed anyway. In about 90 lines of (pretty sketchy) code I wrote a parser and player for the blinkenlight movies that corresponds to the specifications of those LCDs. Olipas niin kuuma päivä, ettei Elaine-koodaus kauheasti edennyt tai maittanut. Samaan aikaan toisaalla TJ sai vihdoin säädettyä kehitysympäristönsä kuntoon, ja heti alkoi syntymään uusia featureita Elaineen.

Kirjoittelin pari mailia ja tekstareita eri tahoille tiedustellakseni valmisteluiden etenemistä. Periaatteessa iso osa hommista alkaa olemaan hyvällä mallilla, mutta pientä säädettävää riittää ennemmän kuin tarpeen. TBL & co koodailevat AssemblyTV:lle sellasta hienoa tg-pulautinta, joka tuottaa meidän välitekstit tv-ruutuun.

Ylipäätään AssemblyTV:n toiminta on kyllä muuttunut pitkälti ohjelmointiurakaksi - olemme varmaan ymmärtäneet tv-toiminnan hieman eri tavalla kuin tv-alan ihmiset yleensä… Entä sitten? - kysyn minä vaan. :)

Vilkuilin läpi myös Assembly 2004 DVD:tä tänään ekaa kertaa. Olin pudota tuoliltani kun näin DVD:n (video-osion) alkutehosteet, jotka näyttivät loistavilta! Abyss & co pistäneet taas parastaan!
